NEW YORK, July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- OVER 100 MILLION U.S. ADULTS AND THEIR CHILDREN DON'T HAVE INTERNET ACCESS OR USE REALLY SLOW DIAL-UP BECAUSE BROADBAND IS NOT AVAILABLE OR TOO EXPENSIVE. MOST ARE FROM LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS OR LIVE IN AREAS THAT EXISTING PROVIDERS DON'T WANT TO SERVE. ON AUGUST 14TH, THE FCC PLANS TO VOTE ON THE ISSUE OF FREE WIRELESS BROADBAND SERVICE.
PHONE COMPANIES LED BY AT&T AND T-MOBILE, ARE PRESSURING THE FCC TO SQUASH THIS IDEA BY DELAYING THE VOTE. THEY SAY THIS SERVICE MIGHT HURT THEIR PROFITS.
JOHN MULETA OF M2Z NETWORKS SAYS THAT IN TODAY'S ECONOMY, ACCESS TO BROADBAND SHOULD BE EASY AND AFFORDABLE.
"All Americans deserve equal access to the Internet and broadband, but unfortunately a surprising number of families, schools, libraries and cities can't afford to get broadband and most of rural America cannot even get access to it. The Internet today enables us to be more informed and more productive. So broadband not only improves our quality of life today but improves America's competitiveness tomorrow."
